Castlevania: Nightmare of Tragedy by ProcerDeCrepusculum Castlevania: Nightmare of Tragedy by ProcerDeCrepusculum
Hey everyone,

This is a tribute to Konami's Castlevania Chronicles video game for the Sony Playstation. I made this for the Castlevania anniversary tribute that :icongame-art-hq: is holding. Here is a link to their website--> [link] <--

I do not own any rights to the Castlevania series in either part or whole. This work is purely intended as entertainment and for recreational purposes. Ayami Kojima is the original artist of the composition. The character's names that are shown in my work is Simon Belmont (In the foreground) and Mathias Cronqvist, better known as Dracula (in the background). the work is modeled after the game's cover art of which I used as my inspiration and guide. The work itself was done completely by hand in pencil.

Comments, questions, suggestions, and criticisms are most welcomed and requested.

Thank you all and please enjoy.

Wow, was this done like, pixel by pixel? o.o

Anyway, amazing art! I've always been a fan of the Castlevania series, sadly I've yet to play them all, but I think this is next on my list :3

Keep up the amazing work!

I used watercolor paper. I had a very specified process to prepare that smooth crosshatch feel for it though. You see, before I even shaded the work, I took a white Prismacolored pencil and spread a layer over the whole paper. Interestingly, Prismacolored pencils have a smooth pasty texture to them and, if you put a light layer of it on the paper, it accentuates the patterns of the page as well as my shading strokes but it makes them smooth for blending too. I've experimented with it a few times and have tried adding a bit of water and colorless bender pencils to solidify this feel.

I was inspired to try and create this method because I would always get frustrated with the outcome of a scan. In real life it would be nice and neat but under the scrutinizing eye of a scan it emboldens the grainy texture that I just hate. >.< So, I spend some extra time just to please my odd compulsion. XD

Not to be disrespectful, but this does not look like it where made traditionally. I will avoid the obvious fact that it lacks to me own imagination when copying other people´s artworks. We should reward original artworks.
I did manage to copy method in photoshop using cross-hatch filter mode and 2 - 3 other filters and settings after I copied the original first with black digital painting style.
It could be the fact that you did not do this, and that you did do this by hand. Perhaps you could show the way you drawn this by making a picture after picture , but a new artwork of course not this one it is finished.
Why I doubt you is the large number of digital artworks, and many who look like copies of photos.

lol It seems you are the third person who is curious as to how I made this. I'm not sure what a Photoshop filter is but here is a link to the original cover art that Ayami Kojima did. [link] I think it is obvious it isn't an edited photo of an original image but please take a peak and decide for yourself. :) Also, take a look at my gallery. I think you will find that I'm not someone who would need to stoop to such a practice. :saddummy:

I recognize that you said it was in no disrespect but I am a little offended. I am determined to explain to you all that I can to prove that I'm innocent. :dummy:

I do agree with you, original works should be given exposure as well as valued. However, I'm not adverse to the admin's choices, whether it was in favor of me or not. I was just surprised and overjoyed when I received it. :la:

Now I should explain my unorthodox process of coming to the picture's texture result:

I used watercolor paper. I had a very specified process to prepare that smooth crosshatch feel for it though. You see, before I even shaded the work, I took a white Prismacolored pencil and spread a layer over the whole paper. Interestingly, Prismacolored pencils have a smooth pasty texture to them and, if you put a light layer of it on the paper, it accentuates the patterns of the page as well as my shading strokes but it makes them smooth for blending too. I've experimented with it a few times and have tried adding a bit of water and colorless bender pencils to solidify this feel.

In real life it would be nice and neat but under the scrutinizing eye of a scan it emboldens the grainy texture that I just hate. >.< So, I spend some extra time just to please my odd compulsion. XD

It is a shame that Ayami would not join, but she is a very shy person as I have met her in real life. She would not be offended at people copying her art she would perhaps ask them to make something on their own rather then piggyback her creative process. But she is very nice.
I will not question this websites in admins when it comes to decide who to reward. I think somebody like you who seem to be mostly ignored for your art needs this. Perhaps also offending.
I would just like to see you do this again, picture by picture. But if you can honestly say you created this then I will take your word for it. This is do your least impressive art piece.
I hope all the luck in your world.

What type of paper was this drawn on, because it looks like watercolor paper from the texture.

OOOoohh~! gosh I miss Castlevania~ Such good times~ Amazing~ Love it~ Dracula looks so devilish and sinister~ Belmont looks determined and heroic~ :) 8-) The only game I got to play and beat, (though I don't think I beat every boss...my brother probably took it upon himself to beat the tougher, scarier ones for me,) was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the Playsation~ :happybounce: Anyways, wonderful job~ kickass~

Yes indeed~ A lovely classic~ And it's my favourtie too~ I've only seen some of the newer ones, but I still favor SotN over 'em~ Likewise~ :highfive: :w00t: It was great playing as Alucard~ I wish so much the English version of the game had the Japanese gameplay of Maria~ She seriously kicks ass~!!

Haha I'm overjoyed to see you and I agree upon taste with the Castlevania series. ^_^I too enjoyed playing as Alucard. He is one of my favorite characters. :dummy: I had also forgotten how lucky the Japanese where to receive Maria as a playable character.

Heehee shucks you're so wonderful~ :giggle: :la: :iconmeowwooplz: That's because kind viewers like me look forward to seeing more greatness from you~! :dummy: :aww:  Oh yes~ I can only imagine~ I'm sure your friends are very happy for you too~ :)

Gosh really~? :XD: :) Though there's nothing really wrong with the newer Castlevania games. ..They...hm well just don't have the same essence as the ones that came before them. I remember watching a LP of CastleVania: Aria of Sorrow, and the LPer remarked how easy it was to get lost even with the map. And he did get lost a couple times.
For SotN, taking the whole castle and flipping it upside-down was a clever idea. And they made it work so well. It was new yet still the same castle. Continuing on the same adventure with some new enemies and new challenges. So much to explore too~! Brilliantly done~! Oh me too~ Alucard is my favourite~! :boing: Though I don't know too many other characters. YES~! They're sooooo lucky~ D: Maria's playthrough is sooo cool~!! It's no wonder how she managed to get around the castle on her own~!

Oh I understand where you are coming from completely. They aren’t bad, they are just different. :) Though, I am surprised that someone would get lost in those castles. Aside from SOTN I really enjoy the Playstation 2 games Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence. They take the Castlevania world to 3D and couple it with some decent graphics and excellent music.

Alucard is one of my favorites too. He was number one until Castlevania Curse of Darkness when I met Trevor Belmont. I mean, he is just awesome! XD

Haha Yeah, I bet it is nice to take the castle of SOTN with Maria. :D
